Post-merger HR integration for a global technology company

PPS Consulting India supported the chief human resources officer (CHRO) of a global technology company for nine months after two companies merged, 1,775 hours in all. We provided Project Management Office (PMO) support for the HR integration, and the merged company ended up with one org structure, one applicant tracking system and one executive dashboard.

What was the problem?

Two companies had merged, and with them two HR functions: two sets of processes and policies, recruiting systems to consolidate, two org structures, and HR teams that now overlapped.

The CHRO needed them brought together, with leadership able to see the integration's progress every week.

What did we do?

  1. Design

The new org structure, designed and signed off, and the HR processes and policies of both companies mapped and harmonised.

  2. Build

The applicant tracking system (ATS) consolidated and streamlined, with the implementation of the recruiting software overseen. An executive dashboard set up, and reports for the weekly executive updates.

  3. Adopt

The merged HR teams restructured and optimised, HR processes rolled out across both companies, and project management support across the HR teams, with data analytics behind the reporting.

What changed?

  • One org structure for the merged company, signed off.
  • One applicant tracking system for the merged company.
  • One executive dashboard, and reports for the weekly executive update.
  • The merged HR teams restructured, and HR processes and policies harmonised and rolled out.
  • A five-star client review on Upwork, which noted praise for the work across the company, including from the CFO.

Is this relevant to you?

It is if:

  • You are merging or acquiring, and two ways of working now have to become one.
  • Your leadership wants to see integration progress every week, not at the end.
  • Recruiting, org design and HR processes are all changing at once.

“His work earned the confidence of both HR and Finance stakeholders, including strong feedback from the Finance team at Delinea. I particularly valued his commitment, analytical rigor, and attention to detail, and would gladly work with him again.”

Keith Green, Former CFO, SHRM | Former CHRO, Delinea

Where would we start with you?

With the PPS Backbone Review: four weeks, a fixed fee of ₹1,50,000 to ₹3,50,000 plus GST and expenses, one fix working by the end, and a plan with owners and measures that is yours to keep, whether or not we build it with you.

How the Review works

9 workstreams, one cadence

nine project managers reporting in one format, with a one-page status for the CFO every week

Global finance transformation: nine workstreams on one plan

Relevant if you are running several initiatives at once and each one reports differently.

Questions about this case

What does a PMO do in a post-merger integration?

It keeps every integration workstream on one plan: processes and policies, systems, org design, team restructuring and reporting. Here it also meant one executive dashboard and a fixed rhythm with the CHRO, the HR leads of both companies, and the CEO and CFO.

Can the integration run while hiring continues?

It usually has to. Here the executive dashboard and the reports for the weekly executive update kept leadership informed while the recruiting software was implemented.
